PrivacyBanská Štiavnica lies within the remains of a long extinct volcano. Erosion shaped these ancient formations into the hills and valleys of the Štiavnické vrchy.
Hot fluids associated with volcanic processes formed mineral rich ore veins. Gold and silver mining shaped the town for centuries. Museums and mining monuments bring this history to life.
Today, forests, meadows and the historic tajchy reservoirs invite exploration. The landscape reflects the combined influence of geology, terrain, climate and human activity.
